Self-confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa has backtracked on his accusation linking Albuera municipal police chief Jovie Espenido to the illegal drug trade.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa said Espinosa made the retraction during their meeting after the Senate hearing last week.
“He clarified that whenever he would text Espenido, the latter’s reply would always be a Bible verse. Ayaw kumagat sa drug money (he wouldn’t bite),” said Dela Rosa, quoting Espinosa.
“In fairness to him, Kerwin is gradually withdrawing what he said against Espenido. Kerwin said the other night that in reality, Espenido is not corrupt,” he said.
Espinosa testified about his illegal drug trade before the Senate and tagged Espenido as among policemen who received drug money from him.
Meanwhile, Dela Rosa expressed support for President Duterte’s advice to drug users not to go out of their house or they would be arrested or killed. He added he would prioritize the new drug list to be given to the PNP by the President.
He said the PNP is yet to investigate a former Eastern Visayas police regional director pending resolution of another case on irregular procurement of rubber boats with the Court of Appeals.
