Senator Ping Lacson reacted on the statements by U.N. High Commissioner Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein against President Duterte. In the High Commissioner statement, he named the President as 'murderer' and must be investigated by the authorities in the Philippines.
But according to Lacson the President has immunity and must have a solid evidence in order to move the case.
“First, our President Enjoys immunity from suit during his term. Second, no matter how many times a person in our country admits having committed a murder, as long as there is no other evidence to corroborate his extra-judicial confession, the case cannot stand in any court of the law.” Senator Lacson said.
Representative Harry Roque also fired back to the High Commissioner. According to him, how would the Filipino trust the U.N. if in the first instance they had already showed bias in judgement.
“The judgement the Philippine government receives from the International Commmunity has not been fair or productive. Does the UN still expect to be welcomed to investigate the facts on the ground when the High Commissioner has made statement that appear to prejudge the scenario?” Roque stated.
